Gaels v Naomh Barróg Friendy October 30th (message from Barróg manager Kieran Canning below):
Over the October bank holiday weekend in 2016,Naomh Barrog's u-15 and u-16 teams travelled to Barcelona, to play in a football tournament hosted by Barcelona Gaels. In Total 52 players (very young, young ,old and older ) took to the pitch in the Camp Municipal de Rugbi, Foixarda, Barcelona. In the first Semi Final Leinster ( Brian Hart ) beat a fancied Munster (Joe Forbes) team, aided by a fabulous point from Vinny Stewart. In the Second semi, Ulster ( Declan Coulter ) raced into an early lead , only to be pegged back by a flurry of goals by Connacht ( Martin Kiernan ) in the second half, despite the gallant efforts of goal keeper, Kieran Canning, who finished the tournament with 100% pass completing stats. The winning goal was scored by Dave Kiernan , who ,by choosing not to pass to his son Eoin , went for glory instead.Ulster took consolation by beating Munster in the B Final , while Leinster were worthy winners of the A final, where Noel Hatton accepted the cup on behalf of the team . Thanks to Ger Kelly, Barry Cullen, Mark McCourt and all in Barcelona Gaels for their organisation and support while in Barcelona. Thanks also goes to Mandy Kiernan and Lisa Walsh ( Cassidy Travel, the Pavilions, Swords ) , for putting the trip together. Our trip to Barcelona will live long in the memory ( for all the right reasons) for all players and parents who travelled and played .
OLDIES VS. NEWBIES TRAINING MATCH
Not sure exactly when this will be taking place but keep an eye out here and on Facebook (Barcelona Gaels) for further details!!
A match to settle the age-old argument ... can anything or anyone beat the classics?
